Joseph Cindrich, 90, of Menlo Park, who served in the United States Marines, who received his doctorate in public health, who worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture on safety standards for the meat, poultry and grain industries, and who worked at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to enact seatbelt, DUI and motorcycle helmet laws, died on Oct. 24, 2025.

Helen Lieberman, 98, of Stanford, who received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University, who taught English in the Palo Alto Unified School District, who later taught in San Jose schools, who played tennis well into her 80s and who was an avid bridge player, died on Oct. 23, 2025. 

Michael Jeffrey Lowy, 80, of Palo Alto, who received his doctorate in legal anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his law degree from Stanford Law School, who maintained a family law practice in Palo Alto for over 40 years, who promoted the use of alternative dispute resolution and setting up moot courts, died on March 24, 2025.

Patricia Morrissey, 87, of Palo Alto, who received her doctorate from the University of San Francisco, who worked as one of the early special education teachers in the Palo Alto Unified School District, who founded Morrissey Compton with Carolyn Compton to support students with learning differences, and who received an Avenidas Lifetimes of Achievement award in 2007, died on Nov. 5, 2025.
