Local residents who died recently include:
David Gilman Lougee, 84, Palo Alto, who taught English at Stanford University in 1973 and married to Carolyn Chappell for 62 years and who eventually served as the director of Technical Communications Program in the Stanford School of Engineering, died on Sept. 14.
Nan Ray Engler, 91, of Menlo Park, who had a special interest in rhododendrons and spent 40 years as a member of the De Anza Chapter of the Rhododendron Society, and who loved to travel, from Russia to the Easter Islands to New Orleans, died on Nov. 11.
