The East Palo Alto Police Department is seeking suspects involved in an early morning shooting on the 700 block of Runnemede Street that left a 41-year-old resident injured on April 21, according to Police Chief Jeff Liu.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, Liu wrote in a message to this publication.
“We are not releasing investigative leads at this time,” he wrote.
The city recently celebrated two consecutive years without a homicide, following zero murders in 2023 as community members and leaders continue to reduce crime rates throughout the city.
“East Palo Alto once faced high levels of violent crime in the early 1990s. …The current milestone reflects long-term progress and continued focus on community safety,” City officials wrote in a recent statement.
Local leaders have continued to invest in mental health response services, community action and youth development to ensure the trend, according to the statement.
Police are actively investigating the incident and ask community members to contact the department with any leads. The department’s non-emergency phone number is (650) 321-1112. In order to leave anonymous tips, witnesses can text or call 650-409-6792 and email epa@tipnow.org.
