On Christmas Eve, 63-year-old Joseph Conway was hiking in Edgewood Park in unincorporated Redwood City when he got lost. While making a call for help around 9:40 p.m., his phone died and a search for the hiker immediately ensued. Twelve hours later, Conway was found on Christmas morning.
The Sheriff’s office deployed its specialized search and rescue units including its drone, San Mateo County Search and Rescue Unit, Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Communications Unit. Park rangers and deputies had been searching for Conway throughout the night.
The Sheriff’s Office shared that Conway appeared to be in “good health, despite being wet, cold and tired.”
