The rivalry is heating up again as Menlo School and Sacred Heart Preparatory get ready to face off on the football field on Saturday, September 9.
The fourth annual Valparaiso Bowl kicks off at 4 p.m. for the junior varsity game and 7 p.m. for the varsity game at Woodside High School.
The games are pre-season, non-league matches arranged with the purpose of raising money for the Peninsula Bridge Program, which offers academic enrichment to middle-school students from local low-income families to prepare them for success in high school and college.
Both Menlo and Sacred Heart Prep are located on Valparaiso Avenue in Atherton, and host Peninsula Bridge students during the summer.
“The cause is good; the games are really a highlight,” says Sacred Heart Prep Athletic Director Frank Rodriguez. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm about it.”
The winner of the varsity game gets to hold onto the large silver Valparaiso Cup for the year. Last year Sacred Heart Preparatory won for the first time.
Tickets are $5 per person and will be available at the gate.
