The Woodside Pony Club will put on its annual hunter/jumper schooling show in Woodside on Sunday, September 10.

Often more than 100 English-style riders compete in the fall classic, an all-day show featuring 26 classes in two arenas at the Horse Park at Woodside. The park is located on Sand Hill Road, a half-mile west of Interstate 280.

“Our show has been a standard in the community for the last 20-plus years, where we offer everything from flat classes to jumps of 3 feet, 3 inches,” says show secretary Catherine Swent.

Classes are divided into four divisions: beginning, low, short stirrup (for children 11 and under), and long stirrup for all ages.

High-point awards are given to division leaders. Ribbons and prizes are awarded through eighth place in all classes.

The judges are Susie Dorsey of Woodside and Jennifer Lake, a former Woodside Junior Riders instructor who will also serve as course designer.

The show starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until dark. Food will be sold throughout the day.

Riders may warm up in the arenas starting at 7:30 a.m. for an extra charge of $10. The fee is $15 per class for those who register by September 4, and $20 after that date.

Riders must be members of the Horse Park at Woodside. A one-day pass is available at www.horsepark.org.

Show entry forms are posted on bulletin boards at many riding stables and businesses on the Peninsula. Forms can also be downloaded at woodsideponyclub.org.

The club, formed 28 years ago, hosts this show to raise money for riding scholarships and to improve the club’s facilities at the John Kiely Equestrian Center, 3375 Tripp Road in Woodside.

WPC is affiliated with the U.S. Pony Club, a nonprofit national organization open to English riders, ages 7 to 25.
