The Menlo Park-Atherton AYSO Region 109 girls-under-19 (GU19) team completed an 8-0-1 regular season and advanced to the Area 2A championship on Nov. 11. A strong Mountain View team won the championship game over Menlo Park-Atherton in a close-fought 3-2 battle that went down to the final minutes.
John Henze, Matt James and Robyn Coultas were the coaches for the GU19 team, called the Ghostriders.
Team members are juniors and seniors at local high schools, including Menlo-Atherton, Woodside, Menlo, Castilleja and The King’s Academy. Most of the girls have grown up playing soccer together in Region 109 AYSO.
The GU19 team was one of 143 teams that played soccer in Region 109 this year, with some 1,600 local children between the ages of 4 and 18 participating. Region 109 is part of Area 2A, which includes more than 1,000 Peninsula teams.
Team members are Sally Ramirez, Chelsea Mongird, Ashley Parish, Emily Anderson, Luisa Westley, Jazmin Tovar, Evie Pless, Shelly Camarillo, Isabelle James, Kaitlin Henze, Katie Sherwin, Ameena Elbibany, Kelsey Fowle, Julia Robinson and Clarissa Coultas. Coaches are Matt James, John Henze and Robyn Coultas.
