Woodside resident Erik Arvidsson made skiing news Saturday, Feb. 27, in Sochi, Russia, where he took first place in the International Ski Federation’s downhill junior competition.

Mr. Arvidsson, 20, has been a member of the U.S. Ski Team for two years and is associated with ski teams out of Squaw Valley and Bear Valley.

This is not Mr. Arvidsson’s first title, having won national championships in 2012 and 2014, according to usskiteam.com.

Athleticism runs in the family. Erik’s brother Karl, a senior at Woodside High School, qualified as an All American swimmer for the 100-yard breast stroke in June 2015, and they are the sons of Par Arvidsson, who won a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, according to records at sports-reference.com.
