Atherton’s CiCi Bellis announced on Twitter this week that she is forgoing a Stanford scholarship and is turning pro.
The 17-year-old sensation reached the third round of the U.S. Open, after winning three matches to qualify for the main draw, earlier this month and would have earned $140,000 for her effort. She also reached the quarterfinals of the Bank of the West in July.
