Oaks report: Freshman golfer has solid tournament in Santa Rosa

Menlo College freshman Fredrik Ingul completed the Sonoma State Invite with a three-round total of 235, tying him for 21st overall Tuesday a the Fountaingrove Golf Club in Santa Rosa.

Chico State won the team title, snapping host Sonoma State’s four-year grip. Wildcat Kelley Sullivan earned medalist honors with a total of 217, one stroke ahead of teammate Colby Bean.

Ingul moved up seven places on the afternoon, shooting a 77 on the final round. Christian Ingul didn’t fare as well, dropping 16 places into 50th overall after a third-round 86 left him at 246 overall.

The Oaks are entered in the Sierra Nevada Fall Invite, a three-day tournament that begins Oct. 1.

Women’s volleyball

Menlo looks to get back on track Wednesday when it hosts UC Santa Cruz at 7 p.m. in a nonconference contest.

The Oaks (10-5) dropped a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference matches over the weekend at Hope International and at Vanguard.

Menlo plays its next five matches at home, where the Oaks have won five of their past six matches.

Maggie McDonald leads the Oaks with 2.8 kills per set and 145 overall. Emily Sunada and Sierra Buscher each average 2.1 per set.

Women’s soccer

Menlo opens conference play Thursday with a 1:30 p.m. game at ninth-ranked The Master’s University.

The Oaks (4-1-1) are on a four-match winning streak and are unbeaten in five straight.

Danielle Robinson leads a balanced attack with six points on two goals and two assists. Carolina Velez and Rachel McCloskey each have a pair of goals and an assist.

Men’s soccer

Menlo (4-2-1) opens the GSAC season at The Master’s University on Thursday at 4 p.m. It’s the first of six consecutive road games.

The Oaks are on a three-match winning streak after going winless in their previous three contests.

Eric Hegmann leads Menlo with 16 points on eight goals. Evan Snodgrass ranks second with three goals and a pair of assists.
