Hayden Jung-Goldberg hit a home run and drove in three runs, Henry Bolte doubled twice, tripled and drove in three runs and Palo Alto emphatically delivered a 16-1 victory over visiting Wilcox on Monday.

Not only did the Vikings (18-4, 11-1) avenge its only league loss, they also clinched at least a tie for the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division title with two games remaining to play.

Palo Alto also owns the tiebreaker over second-place Los Gatos (17-6, 9-3), winning both league contests against the Wildcats.

The Vikings finish the regular season with two games against last-place Cupertino, Wednesday on the road and Friday at home.

Xavier Esquer, Paly’s leadoff hitter, hit his seventh home run, this one of the inside-the-park variety. The rest of the team has hit 11. It was his 15th extra-base hit of the year, matching him with UC Santa Barbara-bound Zander Darby (seven doubles, four triples, four home runs).

Henry Bolte slammed his sixth triple, to go with four doubles and three home runs.

Rowan Felsch and Charlie Bates each entered Monday’s game and promptly drove in a pair of runs. Felsch with a triple and Bates with a single.

Danny Peters drove in two runs and Aidan Berger added a RBI. Darby, who also drove in a run, made his second appearance on the mound and struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.

Palo Alto has used 13 pitchers, 10 of which have at least one decision. Ritter Amsbaugh, who allowed a run on two hits over five innings against Wilcox, is 3-0 with a 1.62 ERA. He has struck out 28 and walked eight in 26 innings.

The Vikings already held a 5-0 lead after three innings when they added another 10 runs on six hits, four walks and a hit batter. They sent 14 batters to the plate.

In a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division game Monday, Sacred Heart Prep fell to visiting Burlingame 4-0.

Andrew Rocha beat out an infield hit with two outs in the bottom of the second for the Gators (5-9, 5-6), who travel to play at Burlingame on Friday.

Menlo School brushed the rust off a two-month layoff to beat visiting Notre Dame Belmont 7-0 in the quarterfinal of the Central Coast Section team tournament Monday.

Menlo (9-1) beat NDB by the same score on March 29 in a West Bay Athletic League match.

The top-seeded Knights host No. 4 Evergreen Valley in Wednesday’s semifinal. The Cougars (12-1) advanced with a 4-3 victory over Mitty.

No. 6 Harker (8-0) and No. 2 St. Francis (7-2) meet in the other semifinal. Harker beat Menlo 4-3 on March 11.

St. Francis beat Castilleja 7-0 to reach the semifinal.

Against Notre Dame Belmont, senior Addie Ahlström, juniors Tricia Zhang and Brynn Brady, and sophomore Charlotte Yao each earned straight-set wins in singles.

In doubles, senior Lindsey Ball teamed with junior C.C. Golub at No.1, sisters senior Elisabeth Westermann and sophomore Natalie Westermann at two and senior Penelope Anderson and junior Alex Viret at No. 3 all won.

Girls basketball

Courtni Thompson scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in helping Pinewood top visiting The King’s Academy 75-22 in a West Bay Athletic League game Monday.

Maia Garcia added 13 points and Chance Bucher had 12 for Pinewood (13-0, 10-0), which plays at Lynbrook in the regular season finale Wednesday afternoon.

Annika Decker led the team with six assists. Thompson led Pinewood with four steals and two blocks.

Mollie Kuelker scored 15 points and Carmel Tong added 11 but Gunn lost to visiting Cupertino 45-37 on Monday.

The Titans are at home on Tuesday against Mountain View.

Girls lacrosse

Gunn celebrated its Senior Day with a 17-1 win over visiting Saratoga on Monday.

Gunn honored seniors Lotem Efrat, Tess Flinchbaugh, Brindha Jaeger, Chloe Li, Shreeya Sethuraman, and Kate Williams.

Sethuraman led Gunn with 4 goals and 4 assists. Efrat, Li, Williams, and Irene Kim each added 2 goals. Jaeger had 8 saves in goal.

The Lady Titans finished 8-6 overall and 8-4 in league as they await the CCS seeding meeting on Monday, June 7.

Boys lacrosse

In an SCVAL El Camino contest, Priory finished its season with a 14-5 victory over host Leland on Monday.

Softball

Kylie Liu hit two home runs and drove in four runs, Ashley Ng homered and tripled and drove in four runs in helping Gunn beat host Santa Clara 9-2 on Monday.

Winning pitcher Ruth Jacquette added three hits and drove in a run for the Titans (12-1, 10-1), who host Monta Vista on Wednesday afternoon in the regular season finale.

Jaquette allowed two runs on four hits. She walked three and struck out seven.

Boys volleyball

Gunn lost to host Los Altos in four sets Monday. The Titans were led by Devin Shim with 14 kills and Zach Chang with 12 kills. Sebastian Caldera added 27 assists.

Gunn plays at home Thursday evening against Fremont.

Spring 5480 District 52

Min Jae Kim powered the Palo Alto Juniors to a first-ever first place finish in the Spring’s 5480 District 52 Division in a season-ending, 10-9, comeback win in Redwood City on Saturday.

Kim went 4 for 4, including a pair of home runs and a double, and drove in five runs. He finished the season with a Palo Alto record five home runs.

Rylan See went 2 for 5, while Jackson Sims and Emmett Stewart each drove in a run for Palo Alto, which scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 6-3 deficit.

Anders Lo held RWC to a pair of unearned runs, striking out three. Gus Soedarmono struck out five in relief and See closed the game with two solid innings, ending the game with a strikeout. Augie Jaqua made a diving catch in left field to help preserve the win.

The D52 Juniors program (13–14-year-old) plays with bases 80 feet apart and a pitcher’s mound 54 feet from home plate field using regular baseball rules.

The District 52 Juniors Tournament opens Tuesday with a game at El Camino Park in Palo Alto.
