St. Francis used the same formula that has worked so successfully this season.

If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it?

Viliami Teu carried 20 times for 274 yards and four touchdowns as the Lancers won the Holy War battle Friday against Bellarmine, 44-24 at San Jose City College.

It was the sixth win in a row in the series with Bellarmine and the 500th win in program history.

Teu’s four touchdowns came on runs of 29, 37, 48 and 74 yards. His rushing total of 274 yards was the third most in school history behind Lutoviko Ahoia’s 333 yards in 2014 and Teu’s 284-yard output two weeks ago against Valley Christian.

He likely would have set a new school record had he played in the fourth quarter. Teu was removed from the game after his 74-yard touchdown run gave the Lancers a 37-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.

St. Francis (7-0, 5-0) has two West Catholic Athletic League games left, against Mitty and a winner-takes-all showdown Nov. 6 at Serra. The Padres also improved to 7-0 and 5-0 with a 38-19 win over St. Ignatius.

Perry to Netane touchdown pass just before halftime.

Bellarmine (5-3, 2-3) took the opening kickoff and went on a no-huddle, 12-play drive that concluded on a missed field goal.

It took St. Francis eight plays to go 80 yards with Teu scoring on a 29-yard run.

The Bells came right back on a 15-play, 80-yard drive with Wade Smith hitting Brody Stratz on a 15-yard TD pass. The PAT brought them even, for what turned out to be the only time in the game.

St. Francis took the lead for good when a bad snap sailed over the Bellarmine punter’s head and was recovered in the end zone for a safety.

After receiving the free kick the Lancers needed only three plays to score. Josh Perry connected with Tim Netane on a 30-yard completion and Teu ran 37 yards on the next play to make it 16-7.

St. Francis scored again just before the end of the first half when Perry hit Netane with a 15-yard touchdown pass to complete a 91-yard, 12-play drive.

So it was 23-7 at the half, but it didn’t stay that way for long. Three plays into the third quarter Teu broke his 48-yard touchdown run and the Lancers were firmly in control.

Perry completed 8 of 12 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Bellarmine workhorse running back Ben Pfaff carried 29 times for 163 yards.
