Aidan Braccia scored 13 points, one of three players to reach double figures and Sacred Heart Prep beat Tumwater (WA) 76-44 on the first day of the Cactus Jam at Sunnyslope High in Phoenix on Monday.
Emmer Nichols and Sam Norris each added 12 points for the Gators (5-1), who meet Start (Toledo, Ohio) at 1:15 p.m. local time Tuesday, also at Sunnyslope. Braccia made three of the team’s eight 3-pointers.
Start edged Skyridge (Utah) 46-45 to advance.
SHP took a 20-4 lead in the first quarter, allowing coach Tony Martinelli to use his bench freely and that resulted in 11 players scoring.
JP Kerrigan and TJ O’Brien each made a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points for SHP, which led 39-14 halftime advantage.
Tumwater (4-1) entered the game undefeated.
Menlo-Atherton dropped a 69-51 decision to Cleveland Heights (Ohio) in another first round game.
The Bears (3-3) are scheduled to play Columbia River (WA) at 11:30 a.m. at Sunnyslope. Westmont beat Columbia River 48-40 and will play Cleveland Heights.
At the Aptos/Warriors NorCal Invite, Mountain View won its third consecutive contest, beating North Monterey County 55-35 in the first round of the White Bracket.
Joe Brown led the Spartans (7-3) with 18 points. Patrick Kaye and Joey Peir combined for another 18 points.
Mountain View meets Saratoga (7-1) at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons beat Soquel 66-29 to advance.
In the Blue Bracket, Los Altos defeated Summit Shasta and will meet Lowell at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lowell downed Half Moon Bay to advance.
At the Torrey Pines Holiday Tournament, Menlo School rallied from a 43-35 fourth-quarter deficit to beat Artesia 61-53.
Lucas Vogel hit all six of his free throws in the final minute to help the Knights (5-1) hang onto the win.
Danny Solomon and Vogel each hit key baskets to spark the comeback.
Gunn beat host Milpitas 41-37 in the opener of the Milpitas’ 2021 Cain Classic.
Rogan Gibbons scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Titans, who play in Tuesday’s final against Washington (SF) at 7:30 pm at Milpitas.
