Highway 84 at Portola Road near Woodside has reopened to two-way traffic, according to a May 30 press release issued by Caltrans. Construction began last March after a landslide damaged the roadway, making the area unstable.

The roadway had been open to one-way traffic since July 27, 2023. During the construction, Caltrans crew were able to repair the slope and construct a retaining wall to support the soil and prevent further collapse, the press release said. The roadway structural section was also reconstructed, drainage systems were repaired and erosion control measures were put in place.

Caltrans crew will be present today, May 31, near the roadways to clear materials and equipment.

The press release also states, “Caltrans would like to thank the public for their patience and support as we worked together to repair the roadway.”

  1. Yay!!!

Thanks to Woodside Council Member Ned Fluet and San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller for their efforts. They were both incredibly helpful with this project!

  2. Would be great if the elected representatives helped to elevate the need for bicyclists safety with Caltrain projects. I personally reached out to our representatives to consider bicyclists safety with this reconstruction and was told that it was not possible due to time and space constraints.
