Howard Rathlesberger of Woodside is hoping for a good turnout to hear author Richard Rhodes of El Granada, who will be at the Filoli estate in Woodside from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22, for a book signing and lecture on his latest book, “John James Audubon: The Making of an American.”
Mr. Rathlesberger has a special interest in the event since he is a member of both Friends of Filoli and the Sequoia Audubon Society. Members of the two groups will be admitted free. Cost for the general public is $10.
Mr. Rhodes’ book chronicles life in America in the 1800s within the life story of Mr. Audubon, who was an artist, scientist and conservationist.
The author of 20 books, Mr. Rhodes has received many awards, including a Pulitzer Prize. He has also been a host and correspondent for documentaries on public television’s Frontline and American Experiences series.
Mr. Rathlesberger is one of 20 Filoli bluebird docents taking part in the California Bluebird Recovery Program. Filoli has 92 bluebird nesting boxes on its grounds.
For reservations to the Audubon lecture, call 364-8300, ext. 507.
