The Menlo Park Summer Concert Series will feature a local prodigy, jazz vocalist Hale Baskin of Menlo-Atherton High School, on Wednesday, July 19, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fremont Park in downtown Menlo Park.
On Wednesday, July 12, Full Moon Rude, which classifies itself as a rockin’ blues band, will perform. Gary Tackett, the band’s songwriter and lead guitarist, formerly played with the Bay Area band California Cowboys. He relocated to Northern California in 1993 to start Full Moon Rude.
Jazz singer Hale released her first CD, “Forecast Calls For Hale,” when she was only 13. She has enjoyed a good deal of recognition from the jazz community, winning her second DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award in June.
She sings lead vocals for the Menlo-Atherton High School jazz ensemble and has also played with world-class jazz bands. From January to June of this year, she sang with Cuban jazz musician Arturo Sandoval’s Latin jazz band for 12 dates.
The city of Menlo Park Community Services Department hosts the concerts, which continue through August 16. The park is at Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive.
