Sheldon Breiner, who has lived in Portola Valley since its incorporation in 1964, will be the 2006 honoree at Portola Valley’s “Blues & Barbeque” on Sunday, September 10, from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Portola Valley Town Center.
Mr. Breiner, a co-founder of the Peninsula Open Space Trust, will be feted for his commitment to the town and to open space and conservation projects. The barbecue is a fundraiser for the Portola Valley Open Space Acquisition Fund.
Mr. Breiner is described as an “entrepreneur, geophysicist, protector of Portola Valley open space and self-described explorer.” He’s called “The Indiana Jones of Geophysics” on the barbecue invitation.
The festival begins at 2:30 p.m. with a petting zoo, pony rides and a climbing wall. The “waterin’ hole” also opens for beverages. “The Gauges” band starts the music on stage at 3 p.m. Hedy McAdams will lead line dancing lessons at 4 p.m.
A barbecue with ribs and chicken will be served from 5 p.m.
Auction items will include a dinner for 12 at the Fogarty Winery, an after-hours jukebox party for 12 at The Parkside Grill, a five-day stay in a new home in Patagonia, and a Spring Down Equestrian Center birthday party for six. Mr. Breiner will lead a “Tour de Fault.”
Toni Bray and Diana Raines are co-chairs of the benefit. Members of their committee are Michael Bray, Beth Bianchi, Sharon Driscoll, Beth Erskine, Janet Lorenzen, Deidre McQuillan, Marianne Plunder, Carolyn Rogers, Jason Schmidt, Kris Schmidt, Jay Somersett and Liz Sweeney.
Advance tickets for dinner at a table, with beer and wine, are $60 per person. For dinner on the lawn, tickets are $30 per adult and $10 for each child under 10.
Admission only, with no food served, is $10 per adults and free for kids under 5.
