Jean Rusmore will introduce people to the varied trails that thread the open spaces of Peninsula on Thursday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Kepler’s bookstore, 1010 El Camino Real in Menlo Park.

In talking about the 150 trips over 500 miles of trails described in the fourth edition of “Peninsula Trails,” Mrs. Rusmore draws on her own experience. “I’ve hiked all the trails more than once,” she said.

“Peninsula Trails” describes hikes from San Bruno Mountain to Saratoga Gap, from San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. They range from easy strolls to strenuous hikes.

Ms. Rusmore and her co-authors tell you what you need and want to know, from how to get there, to what to expect, along with information on history, habitats, and whatever might be interesting or unusual.

For almost 25 years, Mrs. Rusmore and her trail books have connected thousands of people with local outdoor opportunities. “Peninsula Trails” first came out in 1982.

The fourth edition, which includes new trails in newly acquired parks and preserves, appeared in 2005. Over those years, she walked and wrote with the late Frances Spangle and Betsy Crowder. Now she works with Sue LaTourette.

Ms. Rusmore and her co-authors have also researched and published other trail books: “The Bay Area Ridge Trail,” and “South Bay Trails.”
