Films ranging from “Baghdad ER” to “Rights on the Line: Vigilantes at the Border” are among 31 documentaries from 30 countries that will be shown at the United Nations Association Film Festival at Stanford University Oct. 25-29.
Marjaneh Mogimi, a filmmaker and resident of Menlo Park, produced “Pilgrimage,” about Shiite Muslims from Iran who risk their lives to visit the holy city of Karbala, about 50 miles south of Baghdad.
The festival, which UNAFF at Stanford University sponsors, promotes documentary filmmaking as a tool for social and political understanding.
The festival will close on an upbeat note with “Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars,” the story of musicians who bring hope and happiness to their fellow refugees.
