The Atherton Tree Committee is looking to spruce up El Camino Real’s median strips with new trees. A public meeting, or charette, is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Main House at Holbrook-Palmer Park at 150 Watkins Ave.
Town Arborist Kathy Hughes Anderson said the committee is looking for input from residents before taking a conceptual plan to beautify El Camino to the Atherton City Council.
The committee would like to replace the shrubs and small trees in the landscaped medians with larger trees, possibly live oaks or a species of elm tree that’s particularly well-suited to growing in Atherton. Caltrans approval is needed, but the agency allowed Menlo Park to do a similar project.
