Editor:
I was troubled by Howard Crittenden’s recent Guest Opinion column, particularly the last sentence, which read: “…we should be prepared to have this vacant boarded-up building greet those coming into Menlo Park for years to come.”
I believe it was Mr. Crittenden’s decision to terminate Landmark Theaters’ lease in July of 2002, leaving the building vacant. A month later he also defaced the building by illegally removing the historic sign, leaving the theater the eyesore it is today. Perhaps if he had been more thoughtful with his actions he would have more support from residents for proposals involving his property.
