Sixteen members of Menlo School’s Class of 2009 have been named semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program and will compete for some 8,200 scholarship awards, worth more than $35 million.
The semifinalists are Jay Baxter, Daniel Crankshaw, Kenneth Diekroeger, Daniel Fremont, Amy Ousterhout, Jeremy Pope, Jeremy Rossman, Mark Hudnall, Natalie Johnson, Alexandra Lai, Lisa Lam, David Miracchi, Daisy Shih, Jeffrey Liebovich, Joseph Pinsker, and John (Patrick) Renschler.
High school juniors across the country entered the National Merit Program by taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors were designated semifinalists on a state representational basis.
Semifinalists now must fulfill several requirements and advance to finalist standing to be considered for one of three types of Merit Scholarship awards that will be announced in the spring.
