Children’s author and illustrator Jan Brett, who has more than 35 million books in print, will be at Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real in Menlo Park, from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23.

She will arrive in a tour bus decorated with illustrations from her latest book, “The 3 Little Dassies” (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, $17.00), the classic story of the “Three Little Pigs” with an African twist. The story is set in Namibia, Africa, where the little guinea-pig-like animals, known as Rock Dassies, hope to find a place to build their new homes. Bold Africa patterns and prints fill the pages and the dassies are dressed in colorful dresses and hats.

The author, who sells a million books a year, says she wants kids and their parents to delve into places they might want to go someday. She has researched many countries for her books including Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Botswana, Costa Rica and China.

A ticket, acquired by purchasing a copy of “The Three Littel Dassies,” is required to attend Ms. Brett’s talk. For more information, call Kepler’s at 324-4321.
