Today, Jan. 5, weather permitting, CalFire plans to conduct “a fire fuels management project” along the Kings Mountain Road fuel break within Huddart County Park in Woodside. The Park will remain open, according to CalFire.
The single day project involves firefighters igniting 14 piles of woody debris to address the accumulation of “ladder fuels” and dead material that can fuel wildfires from the forest floor upward into the tree canopy. Removing these fuels helps the large-scale shaded fuel break remain effective and reduces the intensity of potential wildfire. CalFire says it also maintains exit routes for the community and access for first responders along Kings Mountain Road.
Smoke may be visible from Woodside and the Skyline area. The burn will only proceed if weather and air quality conditions are favorable.
