Kepler’s Books in Menlo Park drew a crowd on Monday, Sept. 9, hosting New York Times bestselling Australian author Liane Moriarty. Moriarty is known for her fiction books such as “Big Little Lies,” “Nine Perfect Strangers,” “Apples Never Fall” and others.
She sat down with fellow novelist Karen Joy Fowler, author of “The Jane Austen Book Club,” to chat about Moriarty’s latest novel “Here One Moment.“
“Here One Moment” takes place on a commercial flight, where a woman suddenly informs everyone of the date of their respective deaths. For six of the passengers, these dates are disturbingly soon, and it looks like the prophecies may be more than just a mad woman’s ramblings. The characters are faced with questions of destiny, free will and choosing how to live on limited time.
Several of Moriarty’s works have been adapted for the screen. The HBO-adapted “Big Little Lies,” starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and others, garnered Emmy awards. The TV series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” which also starred Kidman, aired on Hulu. “Apples Never Fall” aired on Peacock earlier this year and starred Annette Bening. More of Moriarty’s work is being translated to film.
Moriarty stuck around to sign books after the talk.
“Here One Moment” hit bookstore shelves on Aug. 29.
