Author/illustrator Jan Brett is known for her richly illustrated, whimsical picture books featuring loveable animal characters and, often, reimaginings of tales from all over the world.

Brett’s latest is “Alice in a Winter Wonderland,” which sets Lewis Carroll’s classic story in Alaska, with familiar roles such as the pocketwatch-sporting White Rabbit and the grinning Cheshire Cat represented as wildlife native to the region.

Brett comes to Palo Alto for an event hosted by Linden Tree Books and will discuss the book, its inspiration and even do a live drawing demonstration, followed by a book signing.

Dec. 12, 5:30 p.m., All Saints Episcopal Church, 555 Waverley St., Palo Alto; free but RSVP required (books available for purchase); form.jotform.com/242675607571160.
