March marks Women’s History Month, which recognizes and celebrates women’s contributions in American history. Its origins date back to a Women’s History Week held in Santa Rosa in 1978, which was scheduled to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8.
In Silicon Valley, Women’s History Month festivities include art exhibits, concerts, book club meetups, author and art talks, craft activities and more events for adults and kids. Find a celebration near you in our guide below.
Women’s View 2026 The 20th annual exhibition recognizes and celebrates over 100 women artists who live, go to school or work in San Mateo County, including works by women artists at the Maple Street Correctional Center. A reception to celebrate “Women’s View 2026” will be held March 15 from 1-3 p.m., where attendees will be able to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.

“Making Waves: Currents of Change” The Center for Creativity at the Hotel Sequoia in Redwood City is hosting an exhibit celebrating women artists and environmental consciousness for Women’s History Month and Earth Month in April. The exhibition includes poetry, mixed media, sculpture and more across six gallery spaces.

Free First Friday Kids will learn about women’s history and make their own clay sculptures to take home inspired by Half Moon Bay artist Sybil Easterday. They will then hear about Frida Kahlo at the “Peninsula Innovators Changing the World” gallery. Museum docents will lead tours for adults at 2 p.m.

Celebrating Women Who Rock Winters Tavern in Pacifica is hosting a night of women artists, featuring The Lipsmackers, an Oakland-based pop punk and alternative band; alternative rock band Midnight Bake Sale; party rock Oakland band M Jones and the Melee; and hard rock and alternative metal band Forever to the Moon. The show is being held in support of Fund Her, a political action committee backing progressive female candidates.

International Women’s Day Interpretive Hike Take a guided hike on San Bruno Mountain’s Summit Loop Trail with ecological restoration fellow Emily Martin. The event will honor women like Bette Higgins and Mimi Whitney, who spearheaded the movement to save San Bruno Mountain, and include time for sharing stories.
Dress in layers; closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water and snacks are also recommended. The hike, between 2-3 miles, will include elevation gain. RSVP is required, and spots are limited.
