Avenidas honoree Dr. Margaret Deanesly will educate and entertain people about the rigors of getting old at a senior “Morning with Margaret” on Friday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Sunset Room at Allied Arts Guild, 75 Arbor Road, in Menlo Park. The morning discussion will be followed by lunch,

“Aging: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” will be Dr. Deanesly’s topic as she discusses the physical and emotional aspects of aging in the factual but funny style that has won her applause on the lecture circuit for more than 20 years. On May 21, she will receive a Lifetime of Achievement Award from Avenidas, the Palo Alto senior center.

Parks’ tax proposal on league program

“Parks for the Future,” a proposal for a 1/8-cent sales tax to fund parks and recreation in San Mateo County and its 20 cities, will be the focus of a potluck supper and program Tuesday, March 21, at a private home in Redwood City.

Julia Bott, executive director of the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation, will discuss the proposed measure, which may appear on the November ballot, at the event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of South San Mateo County.

The 6:30 p.m. potluck will be followed by the program at 7:30 p.m.
