The La Honda Volunteer Fire Brigade left its post on Saturday, April 1, to attend a memorial service for 24-year-old volunteer firefighter Jesse James Cole, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident March 26, said fire chief Larry Whitney.

Mr. Cole, a La Honda native, recently returned to his hometown after serving four years with the U.S. Marine Corps.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident, Chief Whitney said.

The Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Department covered the La Honda fire station while firefighters attended the memorial service in Half Moon Bay.
