CZU Fire survivor speaker at Portola Valley committee meeting
At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Portola Valley Wildlife Preparedness Committee will be inviting guest speaker Betsy Burton Firebaugh, a survivor of the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire.
During its regular committee meeting, Firebaugh will share her experience evacuating from the fire, losing her and her husband’s home and her journey to rebuild it in January this year.

Woodside Town Center Area Plan update engagement events
The town of Woodside will be hosting various community engagement events throughout September and October for its Town Center Area Plan update. Pop-up events will be hosted around town for community members to stop by and learn more about the project, ask questions and to leave notes.
Pop-ups can be found across Woodside:
- On Sept. 13 from 12-2 p.m. at Village hub Coffee Bar, 3154 Woodside Road.
- On Sept. 25 from 3-5 p.m. outside of Emily Joubert Home & Garden, 3036 Woodside Road.
- On Oct. 12 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Horse Fair in the Town Hall parking lot, 2955 Woodside Road.
The town will also be hosting its first community open house at Woodside Elementary School on Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. This will be an opportunity for the public to share feedback with town staff and the consultant team on how Town Center can be improved. The event will include interactive stations and maps and will focus on key issue and opportunities for enhancement.

Atherton seeking councilmember
After the resignation of Atherton Councilmember Diana Hawkins-Manuelian on Sept. 1, the Atherton Town Council is seeking applicants to be appointed to her seat for a term of October 2025 to November 2026.
Applicants must be a resident and over 18. The council will interview applicants at its Oct. 1 meeting and may appoint a councilmember on Oct. 1 or Oct. 15.
To apply, either email City Clerk Anthony Suber with a letter of interest and resume or fill out a form on the town’s website by Sept. 26 at 11 a.m.
