Wildfire preparedness for parents

The Portola Valley School District and Woodside Fire Protection District will be hosting an online wildfire preparedness presentation for parents from 6:30-7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The educational event will cover topics including PVSD’s wildfire evacuation plan, emergency communication, shelter-in-place and facilities and wildfire risk reduction.

The town of Atherton is encouraging residents to take advantage of programs with regional agencies to reduce their environmental impact. However, many of the programs are available to people across the Bay Area and San Mateo County.

  • Cal Water’s conservation rebates can help fund switching to more efficient appliances, plumbing and landscaping. The rebates are avalible to anyone who receives water from Cal Water. Learn more at calwater.com/conservation-rebates/.
  • Peninsula Clean Energy offers rebates and 0% interest financing for switching to energy efficient appliances, installing solar and switching to an electric vehicle. The programs are available to anyone with a Peninsula Clean Energy account, which is available to all San Mateo County residents. Learn more at peninsulacleanenergy.com/residential/rebates-offers/.
  • San Mateo County residents can purchase rain barrels and receive a rebate from the City/County Association Of Governments Of San Mateo County. The association will have two rain barrel distribution events in Daily City and Half Moon Bay. The rain barrels are $85 each plus tax. San Mateo County residents can get a $50 rebate on rain barrels and customers of some water providers can get an additional $50 rebate, up to the total cost of the rain barrels.
