Eagle Scouts recognized in Portola Valley
Portola Valley Scouting America Troops 64 and 4064 will honor seven new Eagle Scouts at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. at Valley Presbyterian Church. To reach Eagle rank, each scout must complete at least 21 merit badges, spend at least 20 nights camping, take on a leadership role and complete a community project.
“These seven give us hope for the future. Seeing how diligently they worked to complete their requirements and serve their community is really heartwarming. Look out world, here they come,” said scoutmaster Karyn Ellis.
Scouting America will be recognizing Rohan Jeeva, who built shelves and racks for the Silicon Valley Bike Exchange, and Camilla Khiari, who designed and built an interpretive display about test pilots for the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.
Eagle Scout Anna Perone built a storage shed for the Grassroots Ecology restoration area at Foothills Nature Preserve and Lucas Ribera built compost bins for Corte Madera School in Portola Valley.
Emily Rubin’s Eagle project to assemble 300 hygiene kits supported homeless adults and children through the Bay Area Rescue Mission. Gabriel Sanders refurbished and replanted Valley Presbyterian Church’s counseling garden and Nate Simon refurbished raised vegetable and garden beds at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

Little Leagues honor Bob Lutticken
The Menlo Atherton and Alpine Little Leagues will host a thank you lunch for Bob Lutticken on Friday, Sept. 25, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Lutticken’s Deli & After 5 restaurant following the announcement that his longtime eatery will close.
Lutticken’s had long been a generous supporter of both Little Leagues. As first reported by The Almanac, the restaurant is closing at the end of the month after 45 years in West Menlo Park.
