Many new teachers will be gracing the classrooms of the Las Lomitas Elementary School District this year. The district’s two schools hired a total of 17 teachers between them, with 11 starting at La Entrada Middle School in Menlo Park. Five teachers changed jobs but stayed within the district.
Longtime Las Lomitas bus driver Ron Ferrando retired, as did La Entrada night custodian Al Deltondo. La Entrada has a new night custodian in Grayland Jones, said La Entrada Assistant Principal Pattie Dullea. Of the seven teachers who did not return to La Entrada this year, two left to teach in India.
A few La Entrada kids will get a chance to sing in the “Barber of Seville” in the fall alongside members of the San Francisco Opera.

Describing Las Lomitas as “a stable and successful organization” that focuses on deepening its understanding of what it does well, Mr. Traynor added that he “does not want to start a new program just to start a new program.”
New facilities. The school is finishing up its campus renewal project with new landscaping and transforming asphalt courtyards to grass and trees, Mr. Traynor said.
Departing staff. Third-grade teacher Robert Olds is now teaching fourth grade at La Entrada Middle School; longtime bus driver Ron Ferrando retired in June.
