The Primary School in East Palo Alto was temporarily locked down and searched on Tuesday afternoon after an unidentified caller threatened to “shoot up” the school, according to the East Palo Alto Police Department.

The threatening call came at about 2:30 p.m., according to a news release from the department. Officers from East Palo Alto and Menlo Park police departments responded and proceeded to secure and search the school, according to the police.

Officers did not discover any physical threat and no one was injured, according to the news release. The children were released to their parents once the area was deemed safe, police said.

Located at 2086 Clarke Ave., The Primary School was founded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to support low-income children in East Palo Alto. The organization announced in April that it will be shutting down the tuition-free school at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

The East Palo Alto Police Department is investigating the incident to identify the individual responsible for the threatening call. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the East Palo Alto Police Department at 650-321-1112 or provide an anonymous tip through 650-409-6792 or epa@tipnow.org.
