Data compiled during Menlo Park’s budget workshops, in which 230 residents participated, will be released this week in a report by the San Francisco-based consulting firm, Community Focus.

The report is intended to shed light on how the residents, who broke up into small groups — called mini-city councils — would cut city services or hike taxes and fees to deal with the city’s budget deficit.

The report will be posted online March 14, and presented to the city’s budget advisory committee, a group of 14 residents, at the committee’s March 16 meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at the Civic Center, between Alma and Laurel streets. The meeting will be televised and broadcast online at www.menlopark.org.

The City Council will also discuss the report at its March 28 priority-setting session.

To view the report, go to menlopark.org, and click on the “Your City/ Your Decision” icon. To watch the committee meeting online, go to menlopark.org, choose “City Council” and select “Watch Council Meetings.”

Deadlines approach for commission applicants

The deadline to apply for an open seat on the Menlo Park Planning Commission is March 16. There is also one open seat on the Transportation Commission to fill a term that ends in September 2007, and an open business-member seat on the Las Pulgas Committee for a term that ends in March 2009. Application deadlines are March 15 and 16, respectively.

The Las Pulgas Committee advises the council on activities and programs of the city’s Community Development Agency.

All applications must be submitted to the city clerk’s office. For more information, call the city clerk at 330-6620.

Bring a shovel

If you’re looking for compost, Bayfront Park is the place to go.

On Saturday, March 18, starting at 9 a.m., there will be piles of free compost and mulch just inside the entrance to the park, near the intersection of Bayfront Expressway and Marsh Road.

The material comes from recycled residential yard trimmings, and is being deposited by Allied Waste.

Residents need their own shovels and containers, and in the case of heavy rain, the event will be postponed one week.
