Rival football teams at Menlo School and Sacred Heart Prep face off Saturday, Sept. 8, at Woodside High School for the fourth annual Valparaiso Bowl, benefiting a common cause, the Peninsula Bridge Program, which helps students in lower-income families succeed in school.
The junior varsity game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. The admission fee of $5 goes to Bridge.
Both of the Atherton high schools host Bridge students during the summer, as do Woodside Priory, Crystal Springs Uplands and Castilleja. Bridge works with more than 200 students in Ravenswood, Redwood City, and San Mateo-Foster City school districts to provide them with additional classes and activities.
“Our main mission is to promote both personal and academic success for middle school students in under-resourced communities,” says Executive Director Grainger Marburg.
This school year he hopes to see the program expand to include a parent session, and possibly two new sites by next summer: St. Joseph’s and Nueva schools.
