The smoke from two large Northern California wildfires has cast a pall over much of the Bay Area and has impacted the air quality because of particulate matter in the air, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has warned.
Children, seniors and those with respiratory problems such as asthma can be affected by the high levels of particulate matter.
“It’s prudent to take precautions if your area is being affected by the fire,” said Jack Broadbent, the air district’s executive officer. “If it is smoky outside, keep your doors and windows closed. To minimize exposure, it’s best to stay indoors.”
One fire is burning in Plumas County affecting the East Bay and another has burned almost 19,000 acres in Henry Coe State Park near Morgan Hill affecting the South Bay.
