The robotics team at Woodside and Carlmont high schools has triumphed again. In a reprise of a competition at the University of California at Davis last spring, Woodside/Carlmont’s robot took the top prize in a day-long, 30-team contest held Saturday, Oct. 13, at Woodside High.

The 2006-07 objective and the challenge Saturday required robots to grab 2-foot-diameter plastic inner-tubes and slip them on to elevated horizontal poles in the center of the game floor. Allied robots helped and competitors hindered this objective.

The Woodside/Carlmont team played without its 2006 seniors and with about a dozen new prospects, team spokeswoman and parent Laura Swire Rhodes told the Almanac. Its winning alliance included teams from San Jose’s Bellarmine Prep and The Athenian School from Danville.

Woodside/Carlmont never lost a qualifying match, Ms. Swire Rhodes said, adding: “We had a very reliable robot this last year.”

About 900 people attended, she said. A new season with a new objective begins in January.

Members of Team 100 from Woodside and Carlmont high schools celebrate as they wheel their robot back to the pit area after a successful match.
