The city has scheduled two meetings — one on the future of El Camino Real, and another on what policies the city should pursue to cut greenhouse gas emissions — for essentially the same time on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

At 6 p.m., the city will kick off a campaign to create a new plan for properties along El Camino Real. An urban consultant will discuss the city’s previous efforts to overhaul the thoroughfare, and how other Bay Area cities have gone about revamping their downtown areas. The meeting will be held in the council chambers at the Civic Center, between Laurel and Alma streets.

At 6:30 p.m., the Green Ribbon Citizens Committee is scheduled to prioritize what policies the city should endorse to tackle global warming.

Potential policies include decisions on whether to endorse high-density housing, mass transit programs such as Dumbarton Rail, and various energy and waste reduction methods.

Those who attend will vote on the issues using hand-held electronic devices, and the results will be compiled for a report to be issued to the City Council in November.

That meeting will also be at the Civic Center, in the Burgess Recreation Center at 700 Alma St. People who want to attend the El Camino Real meeting are still welcome to come to the Green Ribbon Citizens Committee meeting after it starts, said committee member Chris Bui.

Bohannon hotel project

The Menlo Park City Council is scheduled to hold a study session on David Bohannon’s proposed hotel and office project on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 p.m.

The council will also discuss the scope of the environmental review required for the project at its regular meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.

Both meetings will be held in the council chambers at the Civic Center.

Mr. Bohannon is proposing an eight-story, 235-room hotel and about 695,000 square feet of office space at two sites totaling 15 acres in Bohannon Industrial Park, near the intersection of Marsh Road and U.S. 101.

Free sand bags

To prepare for the rainy season, Menlo Park residents can pick up sand bags at two locations: the corner of Burgess Drive and Alma Street at the Civic Center and the corner of Pope Street and Laurel Avenue in the Willows neighborhood.
