Menlo-Atherton Vikings football squads are preparing for this weekend’s Peninsula Conference Pop Warner Playoffs after a round of games with the Campbell Wolverines at Menlo-Atherton High ended regular-season action for 2007.

Following are details of the Oct. 20-21 contests:

Tiny Mites: Campbell provided a difficult test for the Vikings offense in a non-scoring game. M-A had difficulty moving the ball, except for a couple of breakaways by the irrepressible Floyd Gazaway III. The action wrapped up the season for the Tinies, most of whom will return next year for Mitey Mite competition.

Mitey Mites: Lavell Gates broke a 95-yard touchdown run minutes into the first quarter, but the Vikings dropped a 24-12 decision to the Wolverines. Gates raced 45 yards for another score in the fourth quarter, but a strong inside running game gave Campbell the edge. The Vikings are looking forward to the annual Mitey Mite Super Bowl, scheduled this year in Salinas.

Junior Pee Wees: Isiah Nash stripped the ball from a Wolverine and fled 75 yards for a 6-0 M-A lead, but the Vikings were edged 7-6 after dropping five fumbles in the second half. Austin Wilson, Adam Greenlow and Spiro Papadakis played strong secondary defense, while Matt Odell, Anthony Gabb and Charles Roth were tough up front. Linebackers Malcolm Gates and Robert Beardsley made critical stops throughout the game.

Pee Wees: Khalil (Lil) James threw a touchdown pass to Jack Heneghan and returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score, leading the Vikings to a 24-0 victory. Joseph Mahoni bulled his way for a second-half touchdown, and Talaiasi Teu kicked three 2-point conversions. Mahoni keyed the shutout with critical tackles to wreck Wolverine drives.

Junior Midgets: A 65-yard run by Keenan Gates and a 50-yard pass from Patrick Bruni to Lukas Oswald highlighted the scoring as the Vikings hung a 25-0 shutout on the Wolverines. It was a big day on defense for M-A, as Marcus Prioste grabbed two interceptions and Markus Franklin stole another pass. Sean Barrett, Griffin Herr, Diante Davenport and Jake Britschgi overwhelmed the Campbell attack.

Midgets: A powerful running attack by the West Valley Falcons scuttled the Vikings 40-25 at Saratoga High, despite offensive heroics by Joe Vea, David Mapa, Edward Norton and Josiah Paye. Norton snatched two TD passes from Paye; Mapa had another long scoring reception, and Paye scored on a quarterback sneak.
