Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Redwood City woman on drunken driving charges after her westbound car struck a Portola Valley woman crossing Alpine Road in a crosswalk near the intersection with Portola Road at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Medics took the driver, Cheryl Kemptonneckkowitz, 52, and the victim, Portola Valley resident Nusy Uridel, 62, to Stanford Hospital, said Sgt. Craig Denton of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Ms. Uridel’s injuries were “moderate,” Sgt. Denton said. Deputies issued a citation to Ms. Kemptonneckkowitz at the hospital and released her to the care of the hospital, Sgt. Denton said, adding that she had failed a field sobriety test.

The initial accident report gave no information on the speed of the vehicle, a tan 2001 Mercedes 500. The subsequent report will have more details, including witness statements, if any, Sgt. Denton said.
