Deborah Gordon, a member of the Woodside Town Council since 2001 who served several times as the town’s mayor, says she will not run for another term.
In a letter to Town Manager Kevin Bryant, Gordon cites the difficulties of the past two years – the death of her husband Richard Gordon in 2016 and of her mother in 2017 – and notes that she will continue to participate in the life of the town, just not from the dais.
“I thank you and all the staff for your input, staff reports, guidance, and care that you have given/shown to me, the council and to all of us in Woodside,” Gordon wrote. “This is a remarkable town and one that I have been privileged to serve and to live in.”
Gordon, the executive director of the Preventive Defense Project at Stanford University, represents District 2. The district includes neighborhoods west of Albion Avenue, along Kings Mountain Road, and west of Woodside Road to Wunderlich Park.
The Woodside council has seven members, each of whom represents one of seven districts, but who are elected at large – by the entire community.
Brian Dombkowski, the chief executive of Sand Hill Global Advisors, has taken out nomination papers to run for the District 2 seat in the Nov. 6 election, according to the town clerk.

Woodside has four open council seats this November: Districts 2, 4, 6, and 7 (a partial term).
The deadline to file for a seat is 5 p.m., Friday August. 10. If an incumbent doesn’t file, the filing period for that seat will be extended until Aug. 15.
Thank you for your many years of service, Deborah.
Deborah Gordon has been a voice of reason on Woodside’s Town Council for a dozen years and will be missed.
