Two separate solo motorcycle crashes occurred hours apart on Saturday, Sept. 19, on Highway 84 near Hildebrand Road. Both motorcyclists were transported to the hospital and were in stable condition, according to Cal Fire officials.
The first crash was reported around 1:57 p.m. and required the individual to be airlifted to the hospital. They suffered from moderate injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Sophie Lu.
The second incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. and was a result of the rider failing to navigate around a curve in the roadway, said Lu.
Cal Fire officials said the motorcyclist went off the road and landed 75 feet down an embankment. Paramedics had to go down the hill and pull up the rider with a rope system before transporting them to the hospital.
Both of the crashes occurred westbound on Highway 84, east of Hildebrand Road. The circumstances involving both crashes are still under investigation, said Lu.
La Honda Fire Brigade and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
“While the CHP – Redwood City is investigating the cause of these crashes, we would like to remind people to slow down and drive with caution on our mountain roads,” posted Cal Fire on X.
