Palo Alto police are investigating the death of an adult male whose body was found at Byxbee Park this morning, police said.

Police have not seen any obvious signs of foul play or evidence of any crime having occurred, though they are continuing the investigation, police said in a news release.

The department was notified at about 8 a.m. by a passerby who saw a possible dead body at the park, which is located in the Baylands Nature Preserve. Police and Palo Alto Fire Department personnel responded and confirmed that the individual was deceased, according to the news release.

The body was found in a muddy tidal area near the Byxbee Park parking lot, according to the news release. Access to Byxbee Park from Embarcadero Way was closed off to cars throughout the morning as investigators with shovels dredged the muddy channel next to the parking lot with the assistance of a tractor trailer.

Bicyclists, pedestrians and dog walkers were redirected as they approached the area, which remained closed as of noon.

The man’s identity was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the department’s 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2513 or submit anonymous tips to 650-383-8984.
