Portola Valley has tentatively selected Mark Linder, Campbell’s former city manager, as its interim town manager, according to a town press release on Jan. 3. The Portola Valley Town Council will be voting to approve a contract to appoint Linder during its Wednesday, Jan. 8, meeting.

Linder has over 30 years of experience serving numerous jurisdictions in the Bay Area including the town of Los Gatos, city of Sonoma, San Jose and the Santa Cruz Metro Transit, according to the release.

During a closed session meeting on Dec. 13, 2024, the Town Council selected Linder as its top candidate after interviewing multiple applicants recommended by recruiting firm Baker Tilly.

“Mark Linder brings with him extensive experience working for a range of municipalities in

different capacities. Moreover, he understands the challenges facing our town at this time,” said Mayor Judith Hasko in a prepared statement. “He is well-positioned to help Portola Valley address these challenges on an interim basis, while we search for a permanent town manager.”

Linder most recently served as the interim city manager of the city of Sonoma in 2023 and served as interim town manager for the town of Windsor in 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College and a master’s degree in public administration from San Jose State University.

Assistant Town Manager Corie Stocker-Pedalino, who has served as interim town manager since October 2024, will return to her role as assistant town manager after the appointment of the interim town manager.

“I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity and trust from the Town Council to step in and serve this beautiful community and continue my work with the town’s remarkable staff,” said Stocker-Pedalino in a prepared statement. “I look forward to supporting Mark Linder and returning to my role as assistant town manager.”

If the Town Council approves Linder’s contract as interim town manager, his anticipated start date would be Jan. 13.
