One person is dead following a two-car collision around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 35/Skyline Boulevard in Portola Valley on Monday, Jan. 20. All lanes in that section of the road were closed until around 10 p.m.

The crash occurred just south of the intersection with Highway 84, according to a social media post from the California Highway Patrol. Sophie Lu, an information officer for the Highway Patrol said that the crash occurred after a car traveling northbound crossed double yellow lines to pass slower vehicles, and hit a car traveling southbound head on. 

The southbound driver sustained fatal injuries, and the northbound driver was transported to Stanford Hospital with major injuries, according to Lu. 

The San Mateo County Coroner’s office confirmed that Justyn Snyder, 29, of Union City, was killed in the crash. 

No other details about the crash were available, as the incident is still under investigation.
