In the coming days, a new San Mateo County District 4 office will be opened on the corner of Second Avenue and Middlefield Road in North Fair Oaks, the largest unincorporated area in San Mateo County, to assist residents with various resources and services.

District 4 Supervisor Warren Slocum announced in a newsletter that the community of over 14,000 residents will receive services at the office, including medical assistance, mental health support, and CalWORKs applications.

Although an official grand opening date has not been set, the first service will be a seminar on senior mental health on May 17, which Slocum said will likely coincide with it.

“It’ll be targeted towards seniors in North Fair Oaks and mental health is a big problem,” Slocum said. “We’re going to have a behavioral specialist there from the county to answer questions, for instance, and connect residents with mental health services that are available through the county.”

Slocum said the idea came about a few months ago, and the implementation has been quick.

The new District 4 office will be strategically located in the heart of North Fair Oaks, the largest unincorporated area in San Mateo County.

“Unlike a city like Redwood City for instance, that has a City Council and all that, this area is unincorporated, so the county is the main provider,” Slocum said. He added that the office will be available to groups needing meeting spaces.

Slocum added that he hopes a Middlefield Road Business Association will also spring from the new office but that, for now, getting this new office open to constituents is the priority.

District 4 includes Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and North Fair Oaks.
