Luke Weigle scored five goals, Jake Tsotadze added two goals and four assists and host Sacred Heart Prep downed visiting Bellarmine, 13-5, in a West Catholic Athletic League boys water polo match Friday.
Gavin West added three goals for the Gators (9-0), who are playing at St. Francis on Saturday morning.
Griff Price and Wyatt Stenson combined for 14 saves and a save percentage of .737. The Gators converted over 56 percent of their shots and scored once in four power plays.
Bellarmine (5-4) was 5-of-28 from the field and 0-for-7 on power plays.
Michael Heller also scored twice for SHP while Jack Vort had one goal and two assists. Will Swart contributed a pair of assists.
Menlo School played its first nonleague match of the season Friday after finishing WCAL play with a 7-2 mark, behind only Valley Christian and Sacred Heart Prep.
The Knights beat visiting Woodside, 13-4, as Greg Hilderbrand scored six goals and Michael Fang added a goal and had a team-best three assists.
Tommy Kiesling scored three times and goalie Zayd Mahmoud made 14 saves for Menlo (8-2), which finishes its season with another nonleague game on Saturday afternoon. The Knights host Menlo-Atherton.
Menlo established an early 6-1 lead at half from a strong counterattack. The defense was backed by Mahmoud, who had three assist to go with his saves. Kiesling led the team with three steals.
Girls volleyball
Gunn has been through some growing pains but it’s starting to pay off. The Titans earned their first Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division victory Friday night, beating visiting Homestead, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.
Coach Baiba McGibben, who guided Gunn to the Central Coast Section Division I title a year ago, has a roster full of newcomers who are playing in the upper division of the SCVAL for the first time.
The Titans showed improvement against Homestead, getting big games from Hannah Zhang and Kaylin Hallada, who helped Gunn’s JV to a 25-10 record a year ago.
Gunn (1-4) stays home to host Los Gatos on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats beat Palo Alto, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, on Friday, ending the Vikings 18-match SCVAL win streak dating to 2018.
