Stanford senior Sarah Klass is one of three finalists named by the Olympic Club of San Francisco for the Peter J. Cutino Award, presented to the most outstanding female and male collegiate water polo players in the United States as voted by Division I coaches.
Klass led Stanford to an NCAA semifinal finish in 2021 and established herself as the Cardinal’s offensive leader for the second straight season.
An ACWPC first-team All-American, Klass led Stanford and ranked fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in goals (47). She completed her career with 137 career goals.
The Cutino Award ceremony will be remotely broadcast live on Sept. 2, courtesy of USA Water Polo, starting at 6 p.m.

Playing its first exhibition of the season and the first athletic event of the academic year at Stanford, the Cardinal beat visiting CSU Bakersfield, 4-0.

Redshirt sophomore Carlo Agostinelli scored twice for Stanford, while sophomores Aiden Weaver and Layton Purchase had a goal apiece. Weaver also earned an assist on Agostinelli’s first goal, as did Ousseni Bouda, playing his first match since 2019.
“It’s always very exciting to start a new season and I know the players were thrilled to get back out there at Cagan, especially in front of fans and against another team,” Stanford coach Jeremy Gunn said. “I thought from start to finish the team played very well.”
