Gavin West scored six goals and the Sacred Heart Prep boys water polo team finished third in the 30-team South Coast Invitational at Newport Harbor on Saturday, beating Huntington Beach 17-11 in its final match.
The Gators (4-1) lost to Mater Dei 9-7 in the semifinals.
Huntington Beach opened a 2-1 lead midway through the first period before SHP scored the next seven goals to take control.
Will Swart scored four goals and had two assists and Jack Vort added a goal and five assists for the Gators, Harrison Rohlen contributed a pair of goals and two assists.
Swart scored to give SHP a 4-3 lead against Mater Dei with 2:34 remaining to play in the third quarter. The Monarchs scored the next three goals and never trailed again, though West scored to make it 7-6 early in the final period.
Sacred Heart Prep (5-1) hosts Mitty in a WCAL match at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In a nonleague contest, Menlo fell to De La Salle 19-13 on Saturday. Michael Fang and Tommy Kiesling each scored three times for the Knights (5-3), who play at Bellarmine in a WCAL contest Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Girls volleyball
Marymount High won the title of the 51-team girls volleyball Durango Fall Classic, in which St. Francis competed, over the weekend in Las Vegas.
Marymount placed four on the all-tournament team, with MVP honors going to Stanford-bound Elia Rubin. Fellow all-tourney selection Kerry Keefe is the daughter of former Stanford basketball star Adam Keefe. She’s committed to Duke.
Mira Costa sophomore Charlie Fuerbringer, whose father Matt played at Stanford, was also named to the all-tournament team.
Football
In seven-man football, Priory downed Stuart Hall 22-20 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Panthers are scheduled to meet Swett in a nonleague game On Frioday ay 3:30 p.m.
